Cars in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior political figure said the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
