Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
